About Ophidia

Ophidia Products, Inc. is a privately held Texas corporation founded in 1991 for the purpose of discovering biologics for the treatment of human diseases and disorders. The founder and the president, Dr. Binie Ver Lipps, is a distinguished scientist, who has won several grants, attended and presented at many international meetings and published extensively in peer reviewed journals. The name - Ophidia is derived from the Greek/Latin word for the suborder of snakes. Our therapeutics are derived from the various species of snake venoms.

In its Houston laboratories, Ophidia Products has conducted systemic research resulting in the discovery of innovative and powerful bio reagents from snake venoms and other natural sources, such as the serum of the opossum (North American marsupial, Didelphis viginina). Ophidia is committed to the commercial development of human therapeutics based on its novel proprietary biologics. Snake venom is a complex mixture of many substances such as: toxins, enzymes, growth factors, activators and inhibitors with a wide spectrum of biological activities. For a long time, it was believed that snake venom proteins have potential for treatment of cancer, viral diseases, epilepsy and neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, etc. Ophidia has converted this belief into reality and is leading the way towards human therapeutics in synthetic versions.
